Sports Activities and Relax

The whole region of the High Tatras is famous for its ability to provide visitors with almost endless sport opportunities whether it is summer or winter.

Summer

In this time of the year, the most popular activity of all visitors in the High Tatras is hiking. There are a couple of hundred kilometers of trails in these gorgeous mountains. Hikers can visit some of the 12 chalets in the valleys or simply enjoy short hikes around Tatras’ lakes.

Other popular activities in the summer are cycling on the well marked trails and also rock climbing for those who are more skilled in mountaineering.

Two adrenaline sports you can enjoy in the High Tatras are paragliding and bungee jumping. For paragliding you need to have a guide unless you are a holder of an international license for this sport. Bungee jumping is provided in Strbske Pleso, and the actual jump is from a 90 meters high ski jumping platform.

For golf lovers, there are two golf courses with an outstanding view of the High Tatras near Tatranska Lomnica.

Approximately 40km form Nova Lesna you can enjoy traditional rafting on the river of Dunajec in the region Zamagurie.

Winter

As anywhere else in the winter, skiing and snowboarding are the two most popular sports in the High Tatras too. There are several places you can find the best conditions for skiing throughout the region; it’s up to you which one you pick.

Alpine touring as a well-known winter activity found its way to Slovakia about 1965. The High Tatras, along with the Lower Tatras, offers excellent conditions for this adventurous sport.

Usually the cold winters in the mountains help to freeze the waterfalls making for perfect conditions for ice-climbing freaks. The valleys of Velka Studena and Mala Studena are the two common places for this activity.
